“There is more to life than death. My fasting is a means. I have no other.”, when she said it, she meant it. Irom Chanu Sharmila, also known as "Iron Lady of Manipur" or "Mengoubi", was born on 14th March 1972 in Manipur. She became popular since she started her fast at the age of 28 in the Malon Massacre and her primary demand to the Indian Government was repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA). She is a Civil Rights Activist, Political Activist and Poet. She was on hunger strike since 2000 and ended her fast on 9 August 2017.
