Sikkim won the Gold Award for its State Policy on Organic Farming (2004) and Sikkim Organic Mission (2010) and became the world's first 100% organic state! Instead of using chemicals and pesticides for farming, organic farming concentrates more on using compost manure, green manure, fertilizers of organic origin and focuses on crop rotation. This farming method is completely traditional and helps in producing healthy agricultural crops and is an attractive landscape that gives satisfaction to the local people. This process enhances natural soil fertility and productivity. Even the Government of India is putting efforts to encourage organic farming by introducing certain schemes like 'The Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana', 'Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana', 'Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region' and few more.
