A Venereologist is a physician who offers services in the field of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. The diseases might include parasite infection, fungal infection, a viral and bacterial infection. One of the most common STDs, HIV is also studied and treated in this field of medicine.
If we talk in a broader term, venereology is also related to the study of skin and its infection. There are other professions like dermatology, and leprology, which fall under the study and treatment of skin infections. The role of a Venereologist is to identify sexually transmitted diseases, such as syphilis, candidiasis, gonorrhea, human papillomavirus infection, herpes simplex, and genital scabies, and infections, such as chancroid, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum, cytomegalovirus, and hepatitis B and provide the required treatment for these diseases and infections.
