Akuonuo Khezhie's first major break came when she was selected as one of the finalists in Miss India 2007 contest where she won the Sony Miss India and Pantaloons face of the year. She shifted to New York and signed a contract with Star Models for 6 months and then signed up with Ikon Model Management. She has walked the prestigious New York Fashion Week 2010 and the Couture Fashion Week 2011. The same year, she started the biggest performing arts institute in northeast India, 'Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts' in Dimapur, Nagaland. She pursued her modelling career with Ikon Management, New York, being the Managing Director of NIAPA.
