Pratima Bhoumik is an Indian politician who is currently serving as Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in Second Modi ministry. She became the first Tripura resident and second woman from North East to be a Union, who is popularly known as 'Pratima di', is a first-time MP. She was elected from the West Tripura constituency in the last general elections in 2019. Pratima Bhowmik is among the senior-most leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. A science graduate, Bhowmik joined the party in 1991 and has since held organisational positions in the state. She unsuccessfully contested assembly elections twice against Tripura’s longest-serving chief minister Manik Sarkar in 1998 and 2018. She became the first-term Member of Parliament from Tripura in 2019.
